School of Tomorrow. Word Building. 10D. 22.01.2021 Topic: The role of prefixes and suffixes Study the theory block and do the task: Grammaticalization is not only something that creates a word, it is also what creates most prefixes and suffixes. How could someone not knowing any language, figure out what that first language was going to be? Prefixes and Suffixes If someone doesn’t know anything about English, French, or Spanish, and tries to figure out how the first language would be, would they stick endings on “I speak”? How likely is it that they would say, “I speak” and then stick something at the end? “Yo hablo,” “Tú hablas,” “You speak.” English speakers are used to dealing with that when learning other languages. Endings in a language start out as free-swimming words, kludging on to another word and wearing away. They’re like the male anglerfish, becoming just a bump in the end. Latin Words Dealing with Latin, which has got endings, for example,  amo, amas, amat: I love, you lo

The preposition “in” in “I am in the office” implies that the office is a room and you are inside that room. The word “at”, on the other hand, conveys the general idea of the location of one’s office and is often interchangeable with “at work”.  Pace Work. English. 10D. 19.01.2021 Topic: Prepositions in the sentence Study the theory block and do the task: A preposition is an important part of the English language. It is used to show a relationship between a  noun  or  pronoun  in a sentence and another word in the sentence. A preposition must always be followed by a noun or pronoun in a sentence. It can never be followed by a  verb . There are many preposition examples that will make it easy to understand how the parts of a sentence fit together and  how the rules apply  when it comes to using a preposition in a sentence. There are five different types of prepositions: Simple prepositions Double prepositions Compound prepositions Participle prepositions Phrase prepositions Simple Prepositions Simple prepositions are words like  at ,  for ,  in ,  off ,  on ,  over , and  under .  Pace Work. Maths. 10-D. 18.01.2021 Topic:Property tax Study the theory block: What Are Property Taxes? Simply put, property taxes are taxes levied on real estate by governments, typically on the state, county and local levels. Property taxes are one of the oldest forms of taxation. In fact, the earliest known record of property taxes dates back to the 6th century B.C. In the U.S., property taxes predate even income taxes. While some states don't levy an income tax, all states, as well as Washington, D.C., have property taxes. For state and local governments, property taxes are necessary to function. They account for most of the revenue needed to fund infrastructure, public safety and public schools, not to mention the county government itself. You may have noticed already that the best public schools are typically in municipalities with high home values and high property taxes. While some states provide state funds for county projects, other states leave counties to levy and use t

Pace Work. 10D. Word Building. 15.01.2021 Topic: Sound [j] Study the theory block and do the task: How to pronounce the j sound The /j/ phoneme is called the “palatal approximant,” which means that you form a narrow space in the middle of your mouth with your tongue. The j sound is made through the mouth and is Voiced, which means you vibrate your vocal chords to make the sound. It is defined by the position of your tongue and it is an approximant, which is a sound made by creating a narrow space in your mouth through which air flows. In this case, it’s the space between your tongue and the top of your mouth. The sides are blocked so the flow of air just goes through the middle of your mouth. To produce the j sound, raise the sides of your tongue to the roof of your mouth and voice out through your mouth while lowering the back of your tongue. The middle and front of your tongue should be touching the roof of your mouth to begin with. Then you voice outwards and drop your tongue away
