1. Study the theory block
All English words, as well as Ukrainian words, can be divided into syllables. A syllable is called the sound or sound spoken together, with one push of air. Typically, the number of syllables in a word corresponds to the number of vowels. Syllables are part of a word and affect the pronunciation or reading of a word.
The main role in the formation of the syllable is played by vowels. In English, there are 6 letters denoting vowel sounds: A E I O U and sometimes Y. However, the actual vowel sounds are much more: if you take into account diphthongs, as well as the loud sounds of certain English dialects, their number may exceed 20.
Rules for reading vowels
English vowels are not always pronounced as they are called in the alphabet. This is influenced by the position of the vowel sound in the word, that is, the kind of syllable that forms that vowel sound. It should also be noted that English words never end with letters I and U.
The letters A E I O U in the open composition are in most cases read according to their name in the alphabet. In this position, they are pronounced as long loud sounds. It should be remembered that the final E that stands after the consonant is never pronounced (silent E).
